10 Most Common Skin Blunders

1) Misusing Acids
Alpha and beta hydroxyl acids are wonderful for exfoliating the skin however they must be used with caution. Using these acids too much strips your skin causing dryness and flaking,
It is recommended to use a low concentration of an exfoliate containing these acids and stick to only two products. Gradually increase the strength and dry skin thoroughly after use. Sunscreen must be used as it makes your skin more sensitive to the sun.

2) Over Scrubbing
People who have oily, blemished or dry skin often make the mistake of scrubbing for too long or too vigorously. This damages the skin barrier making it difficult to retain moisture. Bacteria is then spread which increases the risk of infection.
Only scrub every third day and avoid products with harsh ingredients.

3) Neglecting Vitamins
As skin ages it responds less to treatment creams. There are vitamins which can assist such a Vitamin A which helps with lines, sun damage and textural changes. To prevent inflammation vitamins C and E work well. Vitamin C also improves texture and clarity.

4) Not using Sunscreen
Daily broad-spectrum protection is essential to protect the skin. The sun is an immune suppressant that destroys the cells that protect the skin.

5) Skipping Moisturizer
People with oily skin often skip using moisturizer thinking that it is not required. This is far from the truth as the skin then produces more oil to combat the dryness. Instead a light, oil-based moisturizer that provides lasting hydration should be used. This won’t clog the pores.

6) Wearing Make-Up While Exercising
While exercising we sweat. Wearing make-up causes bacteria to become trapped and mix with sebum. The pores congest and pimples explode. The only thing you should wear while working out is sunscreen or a moisturizer with a broad-spectrum protection.

7) Overdoing Injections
Botox and fillers can be fantastic anti-ageing tools but don’t use them too much. When used the wrinkles disappear but as the product is metabolized they reappear. For longer lasting effects the temptation is to use more. Have a thorough consultation at a respected clinic and ask to see recent before and after photos. A good doctor will tell you when you have had enough. Remember, the best results are the ones you can’t see.

8) Sleeping in Make-Up
Skin is not able to breathe efficiently blocking the pores. It hinders the skin’s overnight repair functions so it is very important to cleanse every night and use a night time moisturizer.

9) No Exercise
Glowing skin requires healthy blood flow. The only way to achieve this is to exercise. Aim for at least three 45-minute exercise session per week.

10) Wrong Lipstick Choice
Brown Chalky Lipstick ages everyone. Instead, chose a brightening creamy red or flattering coral gloss. The difference is amazing.
